Projects to BOOST your resume!

Projects to BOOST your resume!

Introduction

When you are working hard to build a good resume to apply for a job, there are many important factors that contribute to your resume standing out from others and chances of you getting selected. One very important aspect that makes your resume standout, are your projects. If you have strong enough projects that not only showcase your skills, but also make the recruiter feel confident about them, your chances for selection increase :).

I have curated a small list of time-worthy projects that can boost your resume and put your skills to the test, let's start with the projects one by one and discuss them in detail!

List of Projects

  1. Interactive + responsive website
  2. Solution-Oriented Website
  3. Chatbots
  4. E-commerce store
  5. Mobile app
  6. Mini Games

1. Interactive + Responsive Website

When applying for a front-end role, what can be better than this? Here, interactive means that your website should be able to navigate the user well through the website, it can perform some functions, validation, etc.

You can use javascript, and also a framework if needed. Don't forget to make this website responsive for all the respective viewports, because that is the thing which portrays that you have a good grip over CSS and media queries!

2. Solution-Oriented Website

Have you ever thought of a problem that exists in real-world scenarios, and thought that you could solve it? If yes, start coding then!!!!!!!

Get the solution in your mind first, write the approach on pen and paper, and design a step-by-step process for coding a website that is specific to the solution. This will not only test your problem-solving skills but also challenge you to think as a developer and lay out a set of steps to solve the problem.

3. Chatbots

Chatbots are an amazing way to test your problem-solving and javascript skills to test. Although, these are advanced in nature, but surely will give your resume a boost if you upskill yourself enough. The use case you pick is to manage multiple cloud providers from a single chatbot.

4. E-commerce store

You will work with many different tech stacks here, but also keep in mind to serve the purpose of the website and not only put the work in designing. I would suggest working in collaboration with a friend or colleague, with which you will learn how to manage codebases and get a good hand in different approaches as well.

5. Mobile App

Making a mobile app will be the most common project for app devs :p, but again, your creativity and innovation is what matters the most. You can design a weather app, steps counter, calculator (basic) app!

6. Mini Games

These are one of the most popular projects to put on your resume. Many games like flappy bird, snake games, snakes and ladders and car animation games are the ones that will test your algorithm skills and design skills too.

Conclusion

When learning some new concepts, building projects is a great way to implement and actually get a good hand on the language/concept you are trying to learn. It not only will increase your knowledge about the concept you are trying to learn, but also will teach you new things on the way. Making a better resume is not only about building projects, but also about having the right experience.

I hope you got some value through this post and an idea of what projects to take up next to have them in your resume and increase the chances of it getting shortlisted! I'll see you next Sunday 9:30 am with another helpful blog post! Thankyou for reading till the end.
